Lady Gaga doesn’t want to be compared to anyone ever again, especially Madonna.
While discussing her new album, “Joanne,” Beats 1 Radio host Zane
Lowe compared the two artists, which didn’t sit well with Gaga.
“Madonna and I are very different,” said Gaga, 30. “Just say. We’re
very different. I wouldn’t make that comparison at all and I don’t mean
to disrespect Madonna, she’s a nice lady, and she’s had a fantastic huge
career, biggest pop star of all time. But I play a lot of instruments. I
write all my own music. I spend hours a day in the studio. I’m a
producer. I’m a writer. What I do is different.”
Gaga adds that unlike other artists, there’s an element of
“spontaneity” to her work. “I allow myself to fail,” she said. “I allow
myself to break. I’m not afraid of my flaws.”
She continued, “I just will not be compared to anyone anymore, I am
who the f–k I am and this is me. My life story is my life story, just
like yours is.”
It’s not the first time the two women have faced off in the media. In a 2015 Rolling Stone interview, Madonna accused Gaga of stealing her song “Express Yourself,” which some say sounds similar to Gaga’s “Born This Way.”
“The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she
blatantly ripped off one of my songs,” Madonna said. “It’s got nothing
to do with ‘she’s taking my crown’ or ‘she’s in some space of mine.’ She
has her thing. I do think she’s a very talented singer and songwriter.
It was just that one issue.”
