Muimbaji wa American wa mitindo ya hip-hop na R&B ,Akon ametumbuiza katika sherehe za 2014 Peace One Day huko Jamhuri yakidemokrasia ya watu wa Congo (DRC) siku ya jumapili.
Akon ametumbuiza katika tamasha la kuchangia (The benefit concert) ambalo lilionyeshwa moja kwa moja na mtandao wa YouTube kutokea Goma International Airport na inakadiriwa tamasha hilo lilihudhuriwa na watu wapatao 50,000.
Kutumbuiza kwa“Akon’s kwa sku ya jana ilikuwa ni kama ishara ya kufungua ukurasa mpya wa matumaini yaamani kwa vizazi vya nchi ya DRC na maziwa makuu alisema said Jeremy Gilley, muandaaji wa Peace One Day tamasha lenye Madhumuni ya kurudisha matumaini ya upendo na amani na kuondokana na vitendo vya uvunjifu wa amani ambalo malengo yake yanatarajiwa kufikiwa mwaka 2016.
DRC sio pekee waliobahatika na Akon,Kenya pia walipata kutembelewa na muimbaji huyo siku ya alhamisi wakati akipiga kampeni yake ya Lighting Africa na kukutana na raisi Uhuru Kenyatta na viongozi wa sekta ya nishati na madini na kuingia makubaliano ya kutatua tatizo la umeme kwa maeneo ya Kibera huko Nairobi.
Akon litajwa mwaka 2012 kuwapo aktika 5 bora ya waimbaji wakiafrika wenye nguvu na ushawishi zaidi katia Forbes’ 40 Most Powerful Celebrities.
Nchi nyingine zitakazonufaika na kampeni hiyo ya Akon Lighting Africa ni sambamba na Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon,na Ivory Coast.
The benefit concert was broadcast live on YouTube from Goma International Airport, and was estimated to have more than 50,000 attendees.
“Akon’s performance on this day will signal a new chapter of hope for a generation in the DRC and Great Lakes region”, said Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day, before the show started.
Peace One Day’s objective in DRC is to make a measurable reduction in violence in the region by Peace Day 2016, at the latest.
The DRC is one of the poorest, least stable countries on the continent, with a weak central government and competing warlords who control various territories in the eastern half of the country.
Akon also visited Kenya last Thursday, where he continued to promote his Akon Lighting Africa campaign and met with President Uhuru Kenyatta and energy industry leaders.
Akon has partnered with the Kenyan government to help bring electricity to the Kibera slums of Nairobi.
