21-year-old Washington woman accused Nelly of
an alleged rape, the St. Louis rapper was arrested, but promptly
released without charges pending a police investigation. The
unidentified woman now wants police to drop the proceedings so she
can go back to her normal college life.
A letter from the woman’s attorney, Karen Koehler, stated the alleged
victim said she regretted calling 911 to report she’d been raped on
Nelly’s tour bus after an Auburn, Washington concert on October 7,
according to Buzzfeed.
Although Commander Steve Stocker told BuzzFeed The Auburn Police
Department will continue to investigate if any crime took place, the
woman, who still asserts the incident took place, has decided she will
not be testifying in any criminal case.
“We do not live in a society where a 21-year-old college student can
feel safe enough to pursue criminal charges against a celebrity for an
alleged rape,” Koehler wrote. “As she cries alone in her apartment with
mounting hysteria, she will learn that the celebrity and his lawyer are
issuing public statements that her ‘allegation is devoid of credibility
and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness.’ That her agenda is
‘money, fame and notoriety.”
Koehler pointed out the stress of the entire fiasco has weighed
heavily on her client. The woman also believes her privacy was
compromised by police.
“People are saying horrible things already,” Koehler said. “She
cannot handle this. She is about to break. She wants to close the door.
She wants this to end. She just cannot bear it.”
On the other hand, Nelly’s attorney Scott Rosenblum insists the
accuser’s story was a “fabrication” and is demanding a public apology.
